Overview of role: This new role will be responsible for maximising communications and supporting the development and distribution of key messages to the media, helping raise our profile and understanding of our policy positions.
The Team: The team is responsible for Scottish Renewables’ campaigning work to highlight the benefits of renewable energy to Holyrood, Westminster, the media and other representative groups in pursuit of our work to achieve the optimal environment for the growth of renewable energy in Scotland.
Role and Responsibilities: Implementation of strategic communications programme designed to maximise Scottish Renewables’ visibility and influence on policy and debate in Scotland, by:
1. Developing and distributing news releases and comments to a full range of media outlets including national and regional TV, radio and print
2. Proactively seek media opportunities that support the organisation’s objectives
3. Evaluating and reporting on the reach and impact of media activities through regular media monitoring and evaluations
4. Researching and writing articles for Scottish Renewables to be published in media outlets
5. Supporting SR spokespeople through the development of media messaging and briefing notes if required
6. Collaborating with the SR team contribute to updating website content eg. news release section of www.scottishrenewables.com
7. Working with colleagues in the Policy Team to develop and prioritise positive messages about the industry
8. Maintaining and building regular programme of coordinated communication and engagement with key members of the Scottish and UK press, ensuring the delivery of key messages in support of organisational objectives
9. Contributing to ‘set piece’ publications, such as Scottish Renewables’ Annual Report
10. Acting as first point of contact for all enquiries from journalists, including out-of-hours cover as part of a rota
11. Advising staff, board and members on media threats and opportunities
12. Ensuring up-to-date records of key journalist and editors contacts in our database
13. Deputising for the Director of Communications where appropriate
14. Promoting SR through attendance and participation at conferences, exhibitions and events
15. Production of daily news cutting service for Scottish Renewables’ members
16. Informing members of our work on their behalf
Requirements:
- Educated to at least a degree level
- At least one year experience in media relations, journalism or equivalent
- A persuasive communicator with strong oral and written presentation skills
- Able to manage numerous complex demands and prioritise commitments
- IT literate, competent user of basic Microsoft Office
- Flexible and responsive team player
