THE Evening Express is looking for a talented production journalist to become its deputy production editor.
This is an outstanding opportunity to play a key role in the future success of Scotland’s best-selling evening newspaper.
Reporting to the production editor, you will be responsible for helping to manage the day-to-day running of the production team, with a particular responsibility for facilitating a smooth and structured flow of copy to ensure the title’s two daily editions are delivered to deadline.
You will also have responsibility for ensuring that quality standards and production benchmarks are maintained. A particular function of this role will be to work with sub-editors to ensure that an efficient checking system is maintained for pages.
You will also be expected to respond to and resolve production issues affecting quality and production output in a timely manner. In addition, it is anticipated that you will coach and support staff to use the full functionality of the systems consistently and efficiently.
You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to build relationships with departments outside of editorial, to aid effective cross-departmental working.
As the successful candidate, you will have a proven track record of sub-editing experience in news and page layout with a daily title, as well as meticulous attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work to tight daily demands.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week, working from our Aberdeen office.
