Working for a weekly crime affairs news magazine, The Digger
TIRED of producing dull copy? Looking for some excitement? Then, here is an opportunity to work for a magazine that likes to pack a punch.
We don’t carry advertising, so we don’t care who we write about – a long as it’s news.
This is a job for a news junkie and wordsmith and you’ll be based in the heart of Glasgow.
You will be joining a team who have been publishing The Digger for 11 years.
Senior reporters with years of experience – along with leading designers – produce The Digger every week.
Since launching in 2004, The Digger has set the crime news agenda the nationals follow. We’re looking for a general news reporter who is looking for an opportunity to gain valuable experience reporting on the underworld.
You must have at least three years’ experience on a weekly paper.
And have an interest in investigating crime and social affairs.
We will give to you £25,000 and 28 days holiday a year.
You will report to the editor on a daily basis. The job is 9-5, but you may be expected to work over those hours if needed.
What you will do for us includes but not exclusively:
* Be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines;
* Have a good understanding of reporting the courts;
* Be able to turn boring press releases into interesting copy; and
* Be able to source pictures and take them.
As part of your duties you will search for news ideas on our social media accounts. Your copy will be free of errors, contempt of court and defamation.
As well as taking instructions from the editor, you’ll be expected to source, develop and write stories that our readers what to read.
You must have a driving license as you’ll be expected to use our patrol car when meeting sources.
Knowledge of camera work and editing film would be helpful.
You must be able to produce a minimum 2,500 words a week.
