A FORMER chief sports writer on The Herald has joined the newspaper’s website, as a columnist.
Graham Spiers is to write a weekly column for www.heraldscotland.com.
In an announcement by The Herald, digital editor, Calum Macdonald, is quoted, as saying: “As Scottish football enters unchartered territory, with Rangers demoted to the Third Division and virtually every club facing financial uncertainty, Graham will provide typically frank and fearless comment, analysing big issues and offering thought-provoking conclusions.”
The announcement adds: “The signing of Spiers demonstrates The Herald & Times Group’s commitment to growing their digital brand by offering content which is exclusive to heraldscotland.com and in turn offering more value to digital subscribers.
“This coincides with new recruitment and expansion of the digital editorial team.”
Spiers is currently presenting a weekly golf show on BBC Radio Scotland, does football punditry on Radio Clyde and is doing columns and articles for the Sunday Herald, The Scotsman and The Herald Magazine.
In December, allmediascotland reported he was stepping down, after five years, as Scottish football correspondent for The Times.
