The regional editor of one of STV's hyper-local websites has been promoted to editor of the overall network.
Shaun Milne has been appointed editor of STV Local, an ever-growing network of hyper-local news websites operating in the likes of Edinburgh – where Milne was regional editor – and Aberdeen and soon, Glasgow, which is currently advertising for staff.
Shaun joined STV in February from news agency, Deadline News, where he was consulting managing editor. Before that, he was director/co-owner of publishing company, Planet Ink, an associate news editor at the Daily Record and an assistant editor at the Scottish Daily Mirror.
Says STV: “As [STV Local] editor, Shaun will oversee the editorial content of all STV Local community sites, working closely with the growing team of regional and community editors to deliver compelling and relevant local content for communities across Scotland.”
Milne is quoted in the statement, saying: “It’s a privilege to be given the chance to play such a key role in helping shape what is one of Europe's most exciting digital media projects and to build on the great work of the talented team and communities involved so far.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for me personally and for all those lucky enough to work on STV Local at such an exciting time in its evolution, and I look forward to both the challenges and opportunities to come on the journey ahead.”
Milne succeeds Iain Hepburn, who is now working freelance.
STV Local is currently live in six local authority areas in Scotland – North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray and Edinburgh – with 22 community sites.
