The Scottish Football Association is this afternoon broadcasting an international match online in what is a first for the organisation.
The game – featuring Scotland's under-21 men's team – is kicking off at 4pm. Should the Scots win, their qualification dreams are very much alive for a place in the Under-21 European Championships. But it is their main rivals for a qualification berth, Austria, who they are up against.
The online broadcast is part of an improving SFA website design and the game will be available for both high and low connection speeds.
Says Kayleigh Cameron, assistant communications executive at the SFA: “We are running this as a bit of a trial but hope to cover more games in the future if everything works out. We think everything will run smoothly, the only worry will be the weather for the signal.”
Rights became available for today's kick-off at Pittodrie, Aberdeen, due to Sky's packed schedule of matches this afternoon.
It was 1996 when the under-21s last qualified for their European Championships.
