A FORMER editor of the Scottish news section of the BBC website has been handed the task of creating a web portal drawing together stories about the London Olympics in two years’ time.
Mark Coyle is launch editor of the BBC politics website, Democracy Live. Before that he was editor of continuous news at BBC Scotland, and he’s a non-executive director of Scottish Athletics.
The 2012 site launches on July 27, with two years to go before the Games’ opening ceremony.
Says Coyle: “London 2012 is a brilliant opportunity for the BBC to use all its platforms to reflect the range of sporting and cultural events that will take place across the UK.
“The torch relay and the Olympic Games themselves are examples of where we’ll put people, who are hundreds of miles away, right at the centre of the action.
“It’s important too that we create partnerships to encourage participation from our audiences and provide a lasting legacy that goes well beyond London.”
