AS the mainstream media debate to what extent social media is playing a part in tomorrow’s General Election vote, at least one Scottish local authority is experimenting with social media for the count itself.
The City of Edinburgh Council is aiming to use Twitter, Flickr and blog posts to provide updates from the election counts for the capital’s five constituencies. There will be specific news of how the counts are progressing, photos from the counting venue, Meadowbank, and posts on general aspects of the election, such as the processes and people involved.
Plus, there will be tweets that are tagged with geographical information, to provide updates for each constituency on a map.
