GOOD year, bad year? As 2013 draws to a close, we ask Lucy Boyd, director of LBD Creative: ‘How has it been for you?’.
Briefly, what is it that you do?
We are a small agency producing a broad variety of graphic design, branding, publications and print management for organisations across Central Scotland and beyond. We rely on word of mouth, so our reputation is everything, and, over the last eight years, our business has grown significantly – which has to be a good sign!
Choose three words that sum up 2013 (so far), from a professional point of view.
Energetic, diverse, satisfying.
In 2012, what was your biggest ambition for 2013, and to what extent did you achieve it?
Our ambition was to progress from a partnership to a limited company and purchase new business premises to allow for future expansion. We have achieved both, and although our new office is still in the early stages of renovation, we are enjoying being involved in a different type of design project and excited about the future potential for growing our business.
How has 2013 (so far) been for you, personally?
It seems that both work and private life have been non-stop since January, but a house move down to the Scottish Borders has helped keep my work/life balance in check and given me a new appreciation of both community spirit and our beautiful countryside.
Any changes this year in technology, legislation, the economy, etc that have had a relatively significant impact on the business?
I think the economic downturn has actually had a positive impact on our business, with many organisations turning to smaller agencies like us for the extra value and responsiveness that we are able to provide.
What looking forward to, in 2014 – personally and professionally?
I am sure 2014 is going to be an exciting year for business in Scotland, with the international spotlight being on the country for the Commonwealth Games and the independence referendum. Personally, though, I’m looking forward to grabbing any opportunity to put on my wellies and explore the countryside around my new home.
