A RECORD 79 entries were received by the seventh national Gaelic Film Awards (aka FilmG) – run by MG ALBA, the Gaelic Media Service.
Says a media release, here, about the awards ceremony, many of the entries were inspired by this year’s theme, ‘Gealladh’ (Promise/Vow/Intention).
The winners’ list reads, as follows:
People’s Choice Award:
- Skye Highland Dance Group, Dannsairean an Eilein Sgitheanaich, for their music video ‘Siuthad a Sheònaid’ (On you go, Seònaid)
Youth year old category winners:
- Best Performance: Fergus Munro, who plays a boy who is bullied and self-harms as a result, in ‘An Agallamh’ (The Interview) by Lochaber High School
- Best Young Filmmaker: Shannon MacLean from Mull for ‘Geallaidhean airson na Gàidheil’ (Promises made to the Gaels)
- Best Film: Castlebay School, Isle of Barra, for ‘An Gealladh Meallta’ (The Deceitful Promise)
- Best Production: Portree High School for ‘An Gèam’ (The Game)
- FilmG Theme Award: Grange Academy in Kilmarnock for ‘An Gealladh’ (The Promise)
- FilmG Award for Gaelic: The Nicolson Institute, Isle of Lewis, for ‘An t-Àm ri Teachd’ (What Lies Ahead)
- Best Music Video: Castlebay School for ‘Saighdear’ (Soldier)
- Performance Commendations:
- Lachlan Donald from Glasgow Gaelic School for his role in ‘Drumaichean’ (Drums)
- Roslyn Sweeney from Glasgow Gaelic School for her role in ‘Beatha le Burraidheachd’ (A Life of Bullying)
- Willow Ianetta from Edinburgh, for her role in Fèisean nan Gàidheal’s Drama Summer School’s film ‘Gaol an t-Samhraidh’ (Summer Love)
- Sine MacDonald from the Nicolson institute for her role in ‘An t-Àm ri Teachd’ (What the Future Holds)
Open category winners:
- Best Community Film: Skye Highland Dance Group, Dannsairean an Eilein Sgitheanaich, for their music video ‘Siuthad a Sheònaid’ (On you go, Seònaid)
- Best Student Film: Rachel MacLaren from the TV Course at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic College, for her take on Danny MacAskill’s ‘The Ridge,’ ‘Crisdean Cunnartach’ (Dangerous Crìsdean)
- Best Drama: John Murdo MacAulay from the Isle of Lewis, for ‘Briste’ (Broken)
- Best Music Video: Skye Highland Dance Group, Dannsairean an Eilein Sgitheanaich, for their music video ‘Siuthad a Sheònaid’ (On you go, Seònaid)
- Best Performance: Erica Morrison, originally from Skye, now based in Lewis, for her role in ‘Briste’ (Broken)
- FilmG Theme Award: John Murdo MacAulay from the Isle of Lewis, for ‘Briste’ (Broken)
- Best Documentary: Keir Greatorex, originally from Edinburgh, but studying at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in Skye, for ‘Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Phort Rìgh’ (Portree’s Gaelic School).
