THE BBC is reporting that Scots journalist, Neil McIntosh, has been appointed managing editor of its Online and ‘Red Button’ services.
McIntosh – currently deputy editor of The Wall Street Journal (Europe) – is reportedly starting his new job at the beginning of April.
Says the BBC: “Between 2004 and 2008, McIntosh was assistant editor and head of editorial development for guardian.co.uk, where he launched the site’s blog, audio and video output. He joined The Guardian newspaper as deputy editor of its technology section in 1999. McIntosh will be based in Salford, reporting to Andy Conroy, Chief Operating Officer for BBC Future Media and BBC Online, and starts on April 2 2013.”
He is quoted, as saying: “It’s very exciting to be joining the BBC at a vital point in its digital development. As more and more people turn online for their news, information and entertainment, there’s a huge opportunity to build on what BBC Online offers across four screens. I’m looking forward to helping the BBC add to its long track record of using the latest technology to engage with, and serve, its audiences.”
Adds the BBC: “BBC Online comprises ten products – BBC News, Sport, Weather, CBeebies, CBBC, BBC iPlayer, iPlayer Radio, Knowledge and Learning, Search and the BBC Homepage. The BBC’s websites reach over 24 million people in the UK every week, and 14.5 million for BBC Red Button.”
