BBC Two has commissioned the production arm of STV to make a feature-length documentary to mark the 25th anniversary of the Piper Alpha disaster, which saw 167 people die as a result of a fire on the Piper Alpha North Sea oil rig.
Fire in the Night is to be directed and produced by BAFTA award-winning Anthony Wonke (The Tower: A Tale of Two Cities, Crack House, The Battle for Marjah). To be made by STV Productions, the documentary will be released in cinemas, UK-wide, next year, ahead of a screening on BBC Two in July.
Fire in the Night is based on the book by The Scotsman writer, Stephen McGinty.
