THE BBC was reportedly banned yesterday from a media conference at Rangers FC, following an animation screened by the broadcaster earlier this week.
A trailer for Wednesday evening’s live BBC TV coverage of Rangers’ League Cup clash with Motherwell showed a silhouetted McCoist falling, in the style of the US drama, Mad Men.
Initial displeasure attributed to McCoist took up the front pages of yesterday’s editions of The Scottish Sun, the Daily Record and the Daily Star of Scotland.
McCoist is widely quoted – for instance in The Scotsman and the Daily Record – as saying at yesterday’s media conference teeing up a Scottish Cup match today: “I am probably even more disappointed that we haven’t heard anything back from BBC Scotland since we emailed them 24 hours ago.”
He is also quoted – including in The Scottish Sun – saying the trailer was especially “tasteless”, following reporting earlier in the week about the suicide of two teenage girls.
