PLANS to set up an UK-wide network of local TV stations – including in two Scottish locations – have taken a further step forward, with an invite for bids to be submitted.
Broadcasting regulators, Ofcom, have issued an invite for bids to operate 21 different local stations, including in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The closing date for applications is August 13. It is hoped the 21 stations will be up and running within two years of the operators being chosen, expected sometime during autumn.
Plans to possibly have local TV also operating in Aberdeen, Ayr, Dundee, Elgin, Falkirk, Greenock and Inverness are part of a phase two of the initiative, expected after the operators of the first 21 locations have been chosen.
