A post-graduate student is on the hunt of a TV programme she thinks might have been made in the late 1980s.
Linda Jane McLean is studying at the University of Glasgow and working with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow for a MSc on Clinical Leadership. She is compiling a study between Independent Living and Social Services. Her research thus far has unearthed a proposal for a TV programme about Independent Living, entitled 'Same Differencing', that may have been broadcast around 1988 -89.
She told allmediascotland.com: “I've got as far as seeing a letter about Same Difference written by a Martin Davison, dated April 1988. I believe Davison was a TV producer for a Contact TV. But I don't know whether the programme was ever made or how to contact anyone associated with the programme.
“It would be good to find out, because Martin Davison was very supportive, writing in his letter: 'It seems reasonable that disabled people should have as much choice as anyone else about their living conditions, and most particularly in the important area of choosing personal care workers.'”
If it could be shown that this programme was aired, and exposed such views, it would be important, because this very ethos is now being questioned.
