Former BBC Scotland television news producer, Ken Macintosh, is being tipped as a possible runner for the leadership of the Scottish Labour party with Iain Gray standing down in the autumn. He caused one of the many upsets of the Scottish Parliament election night by winning Eastwood, the redrawn Glasgow constituency that most people thought would go to the Tories.
Tom Peterkin, Scottish political correspondent of Scotland on Sunday, reckons Macintosh is a runner. However, he wrote yesterday: “Although he has been in the parliament since it was founded in 1999, he has been overlooked for high office by successive leaders.
“His opposition to the closure of Glasgow’s Victoria Infirmary in 2002 harmed his career prospects at the time and led to tension between him and the former First Minister, Jack McConnell. More recently he has been a Labour education spokesman.”
