AT least half a dozen Scots broadcasters, programmes and radio stations feature in the nominations just announced for this year’s Sony Radio Academy awards – the most prestigious radio awards competition in the UK.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on May 9. The Scottish nominations include:
* Station of the Year (up to 300,000 listeners) – Central FM (103.1 FM);
* Best specialist music programme – Another Country, BBC Radio Scotland;
* Best single promo/commercial – MFR Christmas Toy Appeal 2010 – Moray Firth Radio (MFR);
* Best drama – In for a Penny – Tempest Productions for BBC Radio Scotland
* Best live event coverage – 102.5 Clyde 1 at T in The Park: Radio Clyde for Clyde 1; and
* Music broadcaster of the year – Ricky Ross, BBC Radio Scotland.
Edinburgh-born broadcaster, Nicky Campbell, features in two categories for his co-hosting of 5 Live Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live – including breakfast show of the year (10 million listeners plus), where there is also a nomination for fellow Scot, Alan Brazil, for his breakfast sports show on talkSPORT.
Last year, BBC Radio Scotland took a Best Sports Programme Sony gold for Sportsound.
