BBC Scotland is on the hunt for the next generation of TV drama directors.
On Saturday, established Scots directors David Blair (The Street, Tess of the D’Urbervilles), John McKay (Hustle, Lip Service, Life on Mars) and Gillies Mackinnon (Trial and Retribution, Above Suspicion) will be launching Scotland Directs, a year-long programme of events focussed on – says the BBC – “celebrating, encouraging and fostering directing talent in Scotland”.
The launch is taking place at Glasgow’s CCA.
Chosen on the basis of what they have done as short films, aspiring directors the BBC wishes to nurture will be invited to attend masterclasses, undertake shadow placements, etc.
In a statement issued by the Corporation, Anne Mensah, head of independent drama at BBC Scotland is quoted, as saying: “Scotland Directs follows on the heels of the successful Scotland Writes project we ran last year. We hope the scheme will inspire new talent to find a home, not only with the BBC but with our partner organisations. There are brilliant directors in Scotland and we want to give them a platform to come together and celebrate the best of Scottish film and drama – past and present. We are looking forward to a fantastic year.”
The CCA event is free but ticketed. It is taking place from 2.30pm. To book a ticket, phone 0141 332 7521. Or email scotlanddirects@bbc.co.uk
