Commuters using the Glasgow subway are, from today, to have access to news updates on TV screens dotted around the system and operated by local broadcasters, STV.
Some 11 High Definition screens have been installed to take a news feed from STV, in stations including Buchanan Street, Hillhead and St Enoch. The feed will also, of course, include advertisements.
The initiative is a collaboration between STV, Primesight outdoor advertising and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.
In a STV statement, Gordon Macmillan, Head of News at STV, is quoted, saying: “There’s a variety of ways people can access STV when they’re on the move – from the stv.tv website to the recently launched STV News iPhone app.
“Now we’re delighted to be able to offer another innovative option for Glasgow’s subway travellers and provide a fast and digestible STV news service during their commute.
“With around 14 million passenger journeys a year, STV now has a great opportunity to connect with existing and new audiences in a unique environment.”
