Carol Kirkwood, the BBC Breakfast 'weather girl', has been named one of Scotland's top 100 ‘Highland Heroes’.
The Scot – winner three times of the the Best TV Weather Presenter title at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards (in 2003, 2008 and last year) – received the Highland Heroes accolade from newspaper publishers, Scottish Provincial Press.
Originally from Morar, in Inverness-shire, Kirkwood graduated from Edinburgh Napier University before joining the BBC in 1993 – she started out first as a trainee presenter before moving onto the Met Office and joining the BBC Weather Centre in 1998.
She last week appeared in a colour tabloid supplement carried by SPP's stable of weekly newspapers, which includes the Inverness Courier, John O'Groat Journal, The Northern Scot, The Northern Times, Ross-shire Journal, Strathspey & Badenoch Herald and Lochaber News.
Also featured was Cameron McNeish, one the the UK's most respected mountaineering commentators, who now lives in Newtonmore. McNeish has written approaching 20 books, featured in a number of television programmes and series and freelances for several Scottish newspapers.
A former editor of Climber and Rambler magazine, he was, until recently, editor of the award-winning TGO (The Great Outdoors) magazine – for whom he is now editor-at-large.
As well as presenting the morning weather forecast, Carol also appears on The Weather Show and has been a regular on The One Show.
