A CONTENT deal between STV and YouTube, reported yesterday on allmediascotland, represents a “very interesting partnership”, the Glasgow broadcaster’s managing director for broadcasting has said.
Bobby Hain, who is quoted in today’s Scotsman newspaper, believes the move – which is set to see at least 2,500 hours of STV content, old and new – available for viewing via the video-streaming website, is a step in the right direction for the broadcaster, helping STV to harness the full potential that the web has to offer.
He says the days of STV being just a TV broadcaster is coming to an end.
The Scotsman quotes Hain, who is also MD for regulatory affairs at STV, saying: “They are the number one place for online video content. I think this will be a very interesting partnership because our traditional patch in Scotland was originally mapped out by television transmitters. Here we are in 2010 able to free ourselves from the constraints of television and get our content online as much as is possible.”
He continues: “Broadcasters and producers are coming to terms with the impact of the internet and I think this is a positive way of making and acquiring programmes and continuing to get value out of them.
“The days of just being a TV broadcaster are coming to an end. We have to be more than that, we have to be a full digital media company.”
