A History of Scotland scoops RTS Programme Award shortlisting

A TV documentary series which last year charted the history of Scotland has been shortlisted for a prize at awards being hosted by the Royal Television Society.

A History of Scotland – made by BBC Scotland – is up against two other contenders for the Nations and Regions title at the RTS Programme Awards, which will be unveiling the winners a fortnight tomorrow, at a ceremony in London.

But it wasn’t nominated in the History category.

Joining BBC Scotland is Glasgow-based Mallinson Sadler Productions, which is behind ‘Death of a Battleship’, part of a series, ‘Deep Wreck Mysteries’, and made as part of a co-production with UTV.

Said MSP’s managing director, Crispin Sadler: “We are really pleased to have been nominated for the RTS Nations and Regions award. This was the first time we had worked with UTV and by bringing them together with North American broadcasters we were able to produce a high-quality international co-production which would otherwise have been beyond the means of the Northern Irish broadcaster.

“We see this very much as the future of documentary production, allowing small independent companies such as ourselves to end sharing a platform with such high-end productions as History of Scotland and Shameless.” Sadler was producer/director of Death of a Battleship.

Says the RTS, about the awards: “[They] celebrate all genres of television programming, from children’s fiction to comedy performance, history to soaps. Covering both national and regional output, the Programme Awards aim to recognise the work of exceptional actors, presenters, writers and production teams, as well honouring the programmes themselves.
