Festival bill into top gear

THE full line-up for the Edinburgh Television Festival has been announced, with comedian, Frank Skinner, and TV’s Top Gear presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, among the well-known figures headed for the city’s Conference Centre – and assorted George Street hostelries – on the weekend of August 28-30.

Clarkson and executive producer, Andy Wilman, will be at The Guardian-sponsored festival discussing their unique deal with the BBC to exploit the rights to the show which has become a commercial success far beyond BBC2.

Skinner is part of a panel looking at the approach to taste and decency on the airwaves, entitled ‘Whose whine is it anyway?’.

Many of the themes in the recent Digital Britain report, including the role of public service news providers and the changing delivery of broadcasting to viewers, are to feature prominently in the diary.

Sky1, Fx, BBC3, E4 and Dave will duel to emerge from the short-list for the ‘Channel of the year’, prize while Ant and Dec, and Robert Peston are among the speakers over the three-day event.
