TWO Aberdeen business people are preparing to don their running shoes to raise vital funds for a local sensory charity.
Yvette Rayner, PR account manager for Frasermedia, and Chris Watson, chief financial officer for EthosEnergy, are both running the grueling Stena Drilling Tartan 10k at Balmoral this weekend, in aid of North East Sensory Services (NESS).
NESS, which has offices in Aberdeen, Dundee and Elgin, exists to help people overcome the potentially devastating effects of serious sight or hearing loss, whether they have been born deaf or blind or have developed serious vision or hearing problems.
The organisation supports 4,500 people across the North-east with both social work services and added life-enhancing services.
Mr Watson and Mrs Rayner have both run at Balmoral before, but each is pushing themselves to a new goal this year.
Mr Watson aims to complete the race in a personal best time, and Mrs Rayner has previously only run the 5K race.
Most importantly, they are looking to raise as much money for NESS as possible and to date the combined total raised is approaching £3,000.
Graham Findlay, chief executive officer for NESS, said: “NESS depends upon fundraising and donations to help us run the vital services we offer, so we are delighted that Chris and Yvette are running the Balmoral 10k for NESS.
“Every penny counts and we are always extremely grateful for the generosity of our friends and volunteers.”
Mr Watson said: “I am running to raise funds for NESS as I have been hugely impressed by the charity since I became involved a few months ago. Sensory impairment frequently leads to isolation and NESS provides access to special equipment, employment support, access to social activities and has enabled young people with sensory loss to undertake new activities in a safe environment.
“Many of their activities have to be supported through fundraising, so I am delighted to be able to help in whatever way I can.”
Mrs Rayner said: “I have been thinking about attempting the famous Balmoral 10k hill for a while, and deciding to do it to raise money for NESS was the push I needed. NESS is a truly inspirational organisation which provides vital support for local people.”
