THE Daily Record has been named Newspaper of the Year at the Scottish Press Awards.

Also at the awards ceremony, held in Glasgow last night, Marion Scott – of the Record’s sister title, the Sunday Mail – was hailed as Journalist of the Year.

And this, the 36th edition of the competition, saw Drew Cochrane, former long-time editor of the Largs & Millport Weekly News, the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement accolade.

BEGINS a big feature in a business supplement accompanying yesterday’s edition of The Herald: “It’s exactly 15 years since The BIG Partnership was launched in a friend’s borrowed boardroom – and founding directors, Alex Barr and Neil Gibson, look slightly taken aback as they admit that this is the first time they have both sat down for a newspaper interview about Scotland’s largest PR firm.”

Writer, Colin Cardwell, then quotes Gibson, as saying: “We tend to want clients to be the story, not ourselves.”

A RECORD number of entries to awards celebrating the best of marketing in Scotland has been whittled down to a shortlist across 33 award titles.

The Marketing Star Awards are run by the Marketing Society (Scotland).

The winners will be announced on June 18.

LAST year, the theme was the Scots independence referendum; this year, it’s the General Election.

A Glasgow art gallery is again hosting an exhibition of cartoons, with some of the best-known names from across the UK on display.

They include Terry Anderson (CommonSpace), Gary Barker (The Guardian), Steve Bright (The Sun), Chris Cairns (Wings Over Scotland), Steven Camley (The Herald), Iain Green (Holyrood Magazine), Lorna Miller (Morning Star) and Greg Moodie (The National).

The exhibition is taking place at Leiper Fine Art – 117 West George Street – until the tenth of next month.

WIDELY reported, including here in the Evening Times: “Channel 4 is establishing a new games publishing arm based in Glasgow.

“It will be led by Channel 4’sc Games commissioning editor, Colin Macdonald, and will involve both Channel 4-funded mobile games and games from developers.

“All 4 Games is planning to publish a wide range of games from third party developers each year.”
