The Fools – big laughs for the smallest people

April 1 2015, The Stand Comedy Club, Edinburgh

FOR your entertainment and delight, we introduce The Grand April Fools Day comedy show!

The line-up brings together some of Scotland’s finest comedy talent – a pure plethora of Fools ready to have you rolling about the place, all in aid of Simpsons Special Care Baby Unit in Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary.

Susan Morrison, Stu and Garry, Jo Jo Sutherland and Elaine Miller have all generously given their time in support of a fantastic charity that helps the tiniest of babies.

Comedian, Susan Morrison, organiser, said: “I have a fantastic little friend called Eve Carter. She’s just turned six and is loving her days at Trinity Primary (now a big P2!), her cats and she can whizz her way around various gadgets that I know nothing about!

“You’d never know, but Eve was born at 24 weeks, weighing just 695grams (1lb 8oz in ‘old money’).

“I met her when she was one and have watched her grow into the most amazing, chattiest wee girl.

“Her mum, Marie, and her dad, Ed, and the rest of the family, know that Eve wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the incredible work done by the team at Simpsons.

“We’re all looking forward to having a great night and raising as much money as we can for an amazing cause.”

Background

About Simpsons Special Care Babies

SSCB is a volunteer-run charity set up in 1985 by a group of parents and friends who have had babies in the Simpsons Intensive Care Unit. They were concerned by the lack of adequate resources and support for modern, life-saving technology and established the charity to work to give every baby in the Neonatal Unit (NNU) an equal start in life.

A babies chances of survival is dependent on a number of things; having access to up-to-date medical and nursing care, as well as the love and support of family and friends. Fortunately, scientific advances are developing at a phenomenal rate, but, unfortunately, due to pressure on NHS resources, the NNU cannot always keep pace with these advances. SSCB tries to bridge this gap. We are funded entirely from public support through fundraising and donations.

The main purpose of the charity is to provide equipment, facilities and support to the unit by complimenting and enhancing those provided by the NHS. Our main mission is:

  • To provide life-saving equipment so the NNU care provide the best possible care
  • To keep pace with advances in technology and facilities required by a modern intensive care unit and support the unit when the NHS is unable to do so
  • To provide advice, support and information to families
  • To support research in developments in neonatology
  • To support training of staff working in neonatology
  • To put pressure on local and central government and other relevant people and bodies to provide better facilities and funding for the unit
