NOT for the first time, the Inverness-based radio station, Moray Firth Radio, has been chosen the best ‘small’ radio station in Scotland.
The station has been named in the annual radio ‘nations and regions’ competition run by The Radio Academy.
The competition’s website (here) quotes judges, as saying of MFR: “Clearly an essential part of its community, Moray Firth Radio informs and entertains its audience, bringing them together in a geographically large patch. Demonstrating local expertise at all times, the station showed great variety delivered in a fun and entertaining way.”

SCOTS broadcasters, Nicky Campbell and Alan Brazil, are to be inducted in UK radio’s Hall of Fame.
Campbell and Brazil are to be joined by Barry Cryer, Vanessa Feltz, Trevor Nelson, Pete Price and Jo Whiley when the induction ceremony for the Arqiva Hall of Fame, run by The Radio Academy, takes place on the fourth of next month.

BEGINS the Glasgow-headquartered The Drum media and marketing magazine: “The Drum was named content team of the year at [Wednesday] night’s PPA Digital Awards, with judges praising the editorial team’s use of multimedia.
“Scooping the prize for the business media sector, judges said they were ‘impressed with this transformation from print-first to a classy digital offering, and a successful re-evaluation of content strategy around news’.”

WHEN he said ‘they’, did he mean ‘the media’?
In an interview, the former Celtic and now Bolton manager, Neil Lennon, is quoted by Ian Ladyman, in the Daily Mail, as saying: “At times, I didn’t do myself any favours. I am not saying I was an angel in all of this as I wasn’t. But did I get a fair crack of the whip at times? No. Some of what was said about the difficulties I had was irresponsible. I found it personal.
“They [the media] wouldn’t come out and say my treatment was sectarian. They said I brought it on myself. They hid behind that because they didn’t want to admit it. But it was sectarian in the stadiums. That’s what it was.”

THE editor of the website, BuzzFeed UK, has been named Editors’ Editor at a magazine awards ceremony, insodoing edging out fellow nominee for the title (as noted here, on allmediascotland), The Big Issue magazine’s Glasgow-based editor, Paul McNamee.
Luke Lewis was among the winners at the annual awards run by the British Society of Magazine Editors.

BEGINS an obituary in The Herald, yesterday: “Gordon Menzies, who has died aged 87, was a radio and TV producer and director for BBC Scotland for 26 years, who was in charge of Scotland’s first colour TV outside broadcast, the Tobermory Yacht Race, in 1968. He also produced the long-running comedy show Scotch and Wry.”
