A CONSULTATION on proposals to extend the broadcasting licences of a reported 65 or so local and national radio stations is said to be headed for Glasgow as part of an UK-wide series of regional events.
Says the commercial radio sector website, RadioCentre: “The 65 stations licences currently under review have previously been extended because they broadcast on DAB, as well as FM or AM, supporting investment in digital radio and ensuring continuity of service for listeners.
“Their rollovers will start to expire in the next few years (from 2017), and there is currently no mechanism to enable these licences to be extended further. Instead radio stations would be subject to a wholesale re-licensing process.”
The consultation is being hosted by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

An even more alarming statistic is that 90 per cent of their killers have not been brought to justice, according to statistics from the Committee to Protect Journalists.
“In its report, ‘The road to justice: breaking the cycle of impunity in the killing of journalists’, the CPJ argues that governments need to do much more to catch the killers.”
