THE Herald writer, Harry Reid, has announced that he has penned his last column for the paper.
Reid, a former editor of The Herald, begins today: “This is my final column for The Herald. I am 67 today and although I have made some bad judgments over the years, I think I am making a good one now.”

Reid’s Tuesday slot has been given to fellow columnist, Iain Macwhirter, as an addition to his current involvement.

STAYING with The Herald, in a letter published today, the First Minister, Alex Salmond, picks up on an article about himself that’s heavily critical, by David Torrance, published yesterday (here) in the paper.
Torrance has penned a biography of Salmond. But one imagines there will be few pleasantries exchanged should the pair next meet, with Salmond finishing his letter: “First, I hardly know David Torrance. And secondly – and much more problematically for a biographer – he doesn’t know me at all.”

YOU might describe them as ‘fellow columnists’, given that one writes for The Guardian and the other for sister title, The Observer.
Still, it’s not that often that one columnist urges readers to check out an article by another. But that’s what The Guardian’s Roy Greenslade does with an article penned by Scot, Kevin McKenna.
Writes Greenslade: “I recommend Kevin McKenna’s piece, ‘How can you console a heartbroken and angry daughter? You can’t.’ It sums up the feelings of my wife’s Yes-voting young relatives in Glasgow and East Kilbride. The referendum vote may have been lost, but the spirit of independence now runs deep among Scotland’s young people.”

BEGINS the Edinburgh Evening News, here: “Television star, Gail Porter, has revealed she has received treatment for sex addiction.
“The Scots model and presenter attended a self-help group but ended up getting attracted to other sufferers there.
“Porter, 43, believes her extreme sexual behaviour is a symptom of depression after she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.”
