Moniack Mhor to host

CREATIVE writing centre, Moniack Mhor, has been selected to host the 2014 Dr Gavin Wallace Fellowship.
Moniack Mhor lies three miles from Loch Ness and overlooks the mountains of Strathfarrar and Ben Wyvis.
The Dr Gavin Wallace Fellowship offers a writer time to develop their practice in partnership with a leading literary organisation.
The selected Fellow will receive a stipend of £20,000. Moniack Mhor will receive £5,000 to enable the hosting of the Fellowship.
The Fellowship will explore the theme of Place and its effect on Personal Identity. The Fellowship is open to established writers living and working in Scotland.
To be eligible for the Fellowship, applicants must have published at least one novel, one collection of short stories, one poetry pamphlet or had one professional production of their work staged.
The deadline for application is 5pm Thursday 18 September, 2014.

“This Fellowship presents an exciting opportunity for a writer to have the space and time to create work, in the inspiring setting of Moniack Mhor.”
The selected Fellow will be announced when the 2015 programme for Moniack Mhor is launched on Saturday 29 November 2014.
Kirsty Logan was the first Fellow to be appointed, in 2013, undertaking her fellowship with the Association for Scottish Literary Studies.
Kirsty has recently published her first short story collection The Rental Heart.
During her Fellowship, Kirsty has been working on the development of a new piece of writing titled A Portable Shelter which explores Scottish folktales, fairy tales, family relationships, loss and the sea.
Commenting on her Fellowship, Kirsty Logan said: “The past year has been absolute bliss. Having the freedom to read, think and explore is truly priceless for a writer.
“The Fellowship came at exactly the right time in my writing life, and I can’t recommend it enough – and with A Portable Shelter, I hope I can show that loss of a person does not have to mean the loss of their influence.”

Dr. Gavin Wallace was a central figure in Scotland’s literature world for many years. Gavin joined the Scottish Arts Council in August 1997 as literature officer and later moved on to become the Head of Literature, a position he held for eight years before being appointed as portfolio manager for Literature, Publishing and Language at Creative Scotland in June 2010.
Gavin previously worked as a teacher, lecturer, critic, journalist, editor and broadcaster, and was an associate lecturer in Literature and the Humanities at the Open University in Scotland from 1991-2001.
He carried out graduate and postgraduate study, in English and Scottish Literature, at the University of Edinburgh.

Moniack Mhor is located in the Scottish Highlands, fourteen miles from the city of Inverness. Since its first course in 1993, Moniack Mhor has been running creative writing courses tutored by some of the finest authors in the UK and beyond.
Moniack Mhor runs residential and non-residential creative writing courses, as well as programming outreach work and retreats. 2015 will herald the official beginning of Moniack Mhor as an independent writing centre.
The new programme will be launched on the 29th November 2014. The selected Fellow will be announced at the launch.
