THE award-winning journalist, Peter Ross, has his debut book out later this month – a collection of many of his articles written when he worked for Scotland on Sunday newspaper, until last year.
Being officially launched in Glasgow on the evening of the Scottish Press Awards – for which he has been nominated in the Feature Writer of the Year category – Daunderlust is a collection of stories from his travels around Scotland, including spending time with the painters on the Forth Rail Bridge; inside the prison, Barlinne; and with naturists on Loch Lomond.
Interviewed on BBC Radio Scotland on Wednesday by Edi Stark, his work was described as having an ‘elegiac tone’, partly because, in some cases, it is a record of disappearing lifestyles and occupations.
He talks about being ‘addicted to Scotland’ and how, by virtue of being a journalist, he has been able to gain access to people and stories that is closed to most folk.
Ross is now freelance, including for SoS, the Sunday Herald and The List magazine.

EDINBURGH Airport is to be the subject of a two-part documentary, episode one of which is being broadcast on BBC One Scotland next week – on Thursday, at 2100 hours.

IT is not, after all, going to be Scot, Craig Ferguson, succeeding David Letterman, as host of the Late Show on the CBS channel in the USA.
That was speculation just a few days ago, in the wake of Letterman announcing that he was retiring.
But the new host of the show is to be Stephen Colbert, as reported here and here.

STV has appointed one of its reporters as an anchor for its Edinburgh and East of Scotland news bulletins.
Says an announcement released by the broadcaster: “STV has appointed Laura Miller as anchor for the STV News at Six in Edinburgh and the East.
“Laura started her broadcast career with STV in 2007 and has covered major news stories, including the preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this year.
“Laura will join sports presenter, Paul Barnes, who was appointed to the STV team in the East in September 2013.”
