The Daily Telegraph and i newspapers have enjoyed a year-on-year increase in their average daily sales in Scotland.
According to the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the papers’ average sales in Scotland were 17,698 and 18,637 respectively during February last year and an average 17,820 and 19,320 last month – representing a 0.7 per cent and 3.7 per cent increase, year-on-year.
But the increases were the exception to the rule.
In summary, the daily newspapers figures concern sales in Scotland between February last year and last month and reveal the following:
Daily Mirror – 15 per cent drop = from 20,333 on average during February last year, to 17,274 last month;
Daily Record – 9.7 per cent drop = from 239,174 on average during February last year, to 216,029 last month;
Daily Star of Scotland – 11.5 per cent drop = 51,103 to 45,181;
The Scottish Sun – 9.8 per cent drop = 275,161 to 248,035;
Scottish Daily Express – 7.7 per cent drop = 55,784 to 51,496;
Scottish Daily Mail – 8.3 per cent drop = 100,472 to 92,137;
Daily Telegraph – 0.7 per cent up = 17,698 to 17,820;
Financial Times – 11.7 per cent drop = 2,674 to 2,360;
The Guardian – 2.1 per cent drop = 10,649 to 10,422;
i – 3.7 per cent up = 18,637 to 19,320;
Independent – 16.2 per cent drop = 3,128 to 2,622; and
The Times – 3.5 per cent drop = 18,398 to 17,759.
Meanwhile, the Sunday titles’ sales figures in Scotland were as follows:
Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday – 16.5 per cent down = 29,063 to 24,280;
The Scottish Sun – Sunday – 11.2 per cent down = 200,263 to 177,745;
Sunday Mail – 9.9 per cent down = 270,508 to 243,694;
Sunday Mirror – 21.5 per cent down = 20,983 to 16,471;
The People – 14.8 per cent down = 10,824 to 9,218;
Scottish Sunday Express – eight per cent down = 32,002 to 29,454;
The Sunday Post – 9.4 per cent drop = 172,796 to 156,605;
Scottish Mail on Sunday – 6.8 per cent down = 88,863 to 82,795;
Independent on Sunday – 10.4 per cent down = 5,444 to 4,878;
The Observer – 3.7 per cent down = 14,748 to 14,209;
Sunday Telegraph – 2.2 per cent down = 16,053 to 15,696; and
Sunday Times – 5.9 per cent down = 48,059 to 45,243.
