A FORMER news editor at GMTV has been named editor of upcoming local TV channels serving Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Paul Hughes’s CV includes having led the digital TV switchover recently across the UK.
The channels are to be run by STV – following licences awarded earlier this year by broadcasting regulators, Ofcom – and are to involve student input from Edinburgh Napier University and Glasgow Caledonian University.
And, confirms STV today, the Glasgow channel is to launch in June, with the Edinburgh channel following in August.
Says a STV media release: “Reporting to Elizabeth Partyka, director of the new city TV services, Paul will be responsible for creative and editorial leadership for STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh.”
The new channels will be available on Freeview.
PS An earlier version of this story had Edinburgh launching in June and Glasgow in August; apologies.
