THE chance to learn more about writing for drama and to tour the set of the BBC drama, Waterloo Road, is being offered to one lucky winner of a scriptwriting competition.
Courtesy of a free skills and training event in Glasgow for freelancers in the broadcast industry – taking place later this month – six finalists from the competition will be invited to attend a screenwriting workshop, from which the winner will be announced.
The skills and training event is called Fast Train Scotland and the competition is being organised by the BBC Academy, in conjunction with Creative Skillset and Shed Productions, producers of Waterloo Road.
Fast Train Scotland is taking place on the 24th and entries for the competition require to be submitted by the 16th, to allow for the six finalists to be invited to Fast Train Scotland, which is being held at BBC Scotland’s Pacific Quay headquarters in Glasgow.
Competition entrants are required, says the BBC, “to write and submit up to three scenes written for Waterloo Road, picking a character from the programme and creating a storyline for them, either as an expansion on a current theme, or a completely new scenario”.
Scenes will need to be “in script format and no more than six sides of A4, with up to 200 words of context”.
Adds the BBC: “The winner, who will be announced on the day, will be offered a tour of the set and one meeting where advice on a writing career will be provided by executives.”
