WELCOME to Media Movers, reporting the latest moves within the Scottish media, including promotions and retirements.
FIRST up, changes at The Scottish Sun, with Gill Smith moved from news editor to assistant editor and Kevin Lowry taking over as news editor, having previously been assistant news editor.
Joining the news desk, from Tuesday, is freelancer, Steve Smith. He’s to be deputy news editor and is arguably best known for work he has done for the Sunday Mail.

ALSO at The Scottish Sun, Peter Cox has retired as assistant editor (features). The former editor of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail has been with The Scottish Sun for nine years and officially retired yesterday.

AND it’s been announced that the digital and business development director at Johnston Press – Henry Faure Walker – is leaving, to take up a new position as chief executive officer of Newsquest Media Group Ltd.
It’s understood he’ll be starting his new role in April next year, remaining with Johnston, at least for the moment, to allow for a handover of his responsibilities.
He will succeed Paul Davidson, who has been with Newsquest since 1988, and who will continue as chair.

AT BBC Scotland, meanwhile, Craig Hunter, who previously ran the Glasgow office of independent TV production company, Keo North, has been appointed to the newly-created role of executive producer (commissioning).
Says the BBC, in a media release: “Craig will oversee a range of TV projects produced for audiences in Scotland and will help facilitate network co-commissions and partnerships.
“He will take up his new position at the beginning of January and will report to BBC Scotland’s TV commissioning editor, Ewan Angus.
“While at Keo North, Craig was executive producer on the multi award-winning ‘Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die.’ He joined BBC Scotland last year from Keo North and has been producing programmes for BBC Scotland Science.
“Other executive producer credits include – Keeping Britain Safe, in production, Britain’s Favourite Supermarket Foods, both BBC One network; Trust Me I’m A Doctor, BBC Two network, and Secret life of Rockpools, BBC Four, which are due to air in the coming months.
“For BBC Two Scotland, his recent credits include The Great Big Energy Saving Challenge, which is due to transmit next month.”

AND finally, as reported on allmediascotland.com, Paul Barnes has moved from BBC Scotland to STV, as a sports presenter on the STV Edinburgh and the East news service.
