THE media manager at the City of Edinburgh Council has been appointed an associate director at PR agency, Weber Shandwick Scotland.
Stewart Argo is joining the Edinburgh office of the agency, following six years at the local authority where, says a Weber media releasing announcing the appointment, he “created the Council’s corporate social media presence and significantly increased its proactive output, while managing a series of challenging issues, including the Edinburgh tram project”.
The release continues: “As a senior member of Weber Shandwick’s Edinburgh team, reporting into office head, Harry Hussain, Stewart will be responsible for both client management and new business generation. Stewart will be focusing on a number of major city and Scotland-wide projects with complex multi-stakeholder PR requirements. Stewart will also play an integral role in pushing forward the agency’s digital offering in Scotland, alongside digital strategist, Craig McGill.”
The release adds: “Stewart began his career with BBC Radio Scotland in Shetland, taking his first PR post with NHS Grampian, working on a variety of health promotion and awareness campaigns. He delivered PR for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in the north of Scotland, before being promoted to PR manager responsible for national media activity and change programme communications. A CIPR-accredited practitioner, Stewart holds a Diploma in public relations, and sits on the Queen Margaret University professional advisory panel.”
For a couple of years, until about 18 months ago, Argo was a key figure in Edinburgh’s media scene, organising a series of social events for PR and journalists. He joins Weber next month.
He is quoted, as saying: “Having spent six good years with the Council, I’m now ready to take on a new challenge with one of world’s leading public relations firms. I’ve been impressed by their growth in Scotland over the past year, and I’m looking forward to helping them develop plans for further growth. Weber Shandwick has amassed considerable experience in advising on complex projects within Edinburgh, and I’ll be using my own experience with the Council to help the business develop this offering.”
Weber Shandwick has four offices in Scotland; Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness.
