Walker named ‘Marketing Star of the Year’ at Scots awards

THE head of health marketing at the Scottish Government has been named ‘Marketing Star of the Year’ at an awards competition celebrating the best of Scottish marketing.

Jill Walker received the accolade last night at the Star Awards 2013, organised by the Marketing Society Scotland and now in their ninth year.

Jill (pictured with one of the evening’s sponsors, John Denholm) headed up the award-winning campaign, Let’s Talk About Breasts, which also picked up three prizes at the awards ceremony: Marketing planning, Social marketing, and Advertising (in the communications section of the awards).

In a media release issued by the organisers, Walker is quoted, as saying: “The campaigns this year have not just been about being bold but about making a difference. We listened to our audience research and fought hard to overcome caution and deliver the campaigns that would have the most impact. I’m proud to be been part of a team that has the courage to take risks and deliver campaigns that have genuinely saved lives.”

Other winners included The Leith Agency, which was awarded ‘Star Agency of the Year’ and Louise Killough from The Union, who was awarded ‘Agency Star of the Year’. The Scottish Government also scooped the coveted title of ‘Star Marketing Team of the Year’.

Chair of the Marketing Society Star Awards, Peter Sandstrom, is also quoted, as saying: “The judges faced some incredibly tough decisions this year because of the outstanding examples across all categories. This year’s winners were those who burned the brightest and really showcase just how vibrant and creative the Scottish marketing sector is. Their exceptional campaigns reflect the central role marketing plays within business and the community in Scotland – congratulations to all our winners.”
