DISCUSSIONS are underway in the hope of a film and TV studio – capable of accommodating large-scale productions – being built in Scotland.
Speaking in the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Government culture secretary, Fiona Hyslop, said that discussions with potential investors are already taking place.
In a statement, she is quoted, as saying: “There is clearly an appetite for a large-scale film studio in Scotland, particularly for one with an effective sound stage facility.
“Following my discussions with Scottish Enterprise and Creative Scotland, a delivery group has been established between the Scottish Government, these public sector agencies and Scottish Development International to take forward work on live opportunities for film and TV production from the private sector.
“The delivery group is already in active discussions with a range of organisations and, while I cannot say any more at this stage for reasons of commercial confidentiality, I hope these discussions will lead to a positive announcement in the future.”
The talks are taking place in the context of recent tax breaks for creative industries.
