New app launches, for The Herald and Sunday Herald

THE Herald newspaper and its Sunday sister title, the Sunday Herald, have launched an app for iPhone and Android devices.

The app – also available for the iPad – is, say the papers’ publishers, available for £1, on a trial basis, at heraldscotland.com.

Say the Herald & Times Group: “Along with exclusive content from writers like Graham Spiers and broadcaster Janice Forsyth, you also get the best of The Herald and Sunday Herald.”

In a media statement, managing director, Tim Blott, is quoted, as saying “Our combined print and digital readership allows us to reach audience sizes beyond the wildest dreams of newspapers in a print-only era.”

According to the group’s own estimates, “average regular digital reader numbers were up 50 per cent at the start of this year from a year earlier with weekend readership up almost 70 per cent”.

There is already a Herald app, but this new app will combine both The Herald and Sunday Herald and users of The Herald app will be migrated across.

The company says that adding estimated readership from each of its print titles and websites, including heraldscotland.com and eveningtimes.co.uk, totals more than a million each week.

It goes on to say that its papers’ journalists have more than 100,000 Twitter followers alone, along with a presence on Facebook.

Blott is further quoted, as saying: “Our combined print and online platforms give readers, whatever delivery medium they choose, exciting options that will keep the company’s products at the heart of Scottish life for many more years and not least at this critical stage in the nation’s history.”
