THE BBC’s coverage of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is to be led by BBC Scotland’s chief operating officer, Bruce Malcolm.
Malcolm has been chief operating officer for the last six years and been with the BBC for 20 years.
Writes BBC Scotland director, Ken MacQuarrie, in a memo to staff: “As Head of Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014, Bruce’s new role will mirror that played by Roger Mosey for London 2012. His remit will include both sport and culture, and ensuring the involvement of the whole of the UK in the events of 2014. He will advise both the Director General and the BBC’s multi-genre Commonwealth Games production teams in the run-up and during the showpiece event.”
He adds: “The appointment to this pan-UK role is indicative of the BBC’s commitment to deliver first-class output for Glasgow 2014, building on the huge success of our London 2012 coverage. It’s a real pleasure for me to announce this very positive news for Scotland.”
Malcolm starts his new role with immediate effect with – says MacQuarrie – “arrangements to cover his existing duties [to] be confirmed in due course”.
