THE Equality and Human Rights Commission have appointed a new national director to lead their work in Scotland.
Alastair Pringle takes up his new post on Wednesday November 21.
Alastair comes to the Commission from his post as head of Patient Focus and Equalities in the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorate.
For the last five years, Alastair has been a member of the Scotland Committee of the EHRC and has worked extensively in the field of equalities and in tackling discrimination, predominantly in the health sector, and in the design, development and delivery of public services.
He also led on the implementation of health policy on a range of issues including patients’ rights, patient information and equalities strategy and policy for both the Health & Wellbeing portfolio of the Scottish Executive and for NHS Scotland.
Of his appointment, Alastair said: “I am delighted to be appointed as the Scotland director of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. I have been a member of the Scotland Committee for five years and have witnessed firsthand the dedication and talent that underpins all the work the Commission carries out in Scotland.
“It has been a time of uncertainty and change for many public bodies, and the Commission is no exception.
“But I believe that now, more than ever, we must endeavour to ensure equality of opportunity for everyone to make the most of their lives and talents, and to live their lives free from discrimination and harassment.
“At a time when these things matter most, they should not be considered least. It is an honour to be involved in helping to build a Scotland we can all be proud to call home.”
