BUSINESSES and community groups in Uist and Barra are being invited to attend events to find out how Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) supports local economic growth.
[See below for a Gaelic version of this release]
The enterprise agency has a long standing commitment to supporting communities and businesses in the most fragile areas of the region.
The business and community engagement events will be held on Monday 27 at the Barra Learning Centre, and Tuesday 28 at Claddach Kirkibost Centre, North Uist, starting at 7:30pm.
The two days provide an excellent opportunity for local people to discuss the current outlook for the islands’ economy. They will also be able to find out more about HIE’s role in supporting the growth of dynamic sustainable communities, as well as discovering how the organisation can work with businesses to increase their scale and impact.
HIE’s area manager for the Outer Hebrides, Archie Macdonald, said: “We look forward to meeting businesses, communities and organisations across the Southern Isles. HIE’s unique integration of community and economic development powers gives us the ability to pursue opportunities and address challenges affecting our fragile areas in particular.
“Those who attend the events will get an overview of HIE’s role in helping to create sustainable economic growth and find out how we can assist them to develop ambition and enterprise in these areas.”
Newly appointed senior development manager Joanna Peteranna, who is based at HIE’s office in Lionacleit, Benbecula, will also be there to discuss how HIE can work closely with local people and explain what support is available from the agency for communities to realise opportunities and deliver ambitious social, economic and cultural benefits.
