Featuring performers associated with the rich song heritage of our mining industry in the Lothians, Fife and South-West Scotland, as well as the North-East of England:
JIM BAINBRIDGE (melodeon/song) -Tyneside and Galloway via Ireland, a canny lad indeed!
RAGGED GLORY – from ‘Nitten’ Folk Club, Newtongrange, very close to the Lady Victoria Colliery and Mining Museum, Edinburgh Fringe Award winners
MICK WEST – highly-respected traditional singer from Glasgow, very much at home in Partick in his own folk club HQ, but also very welcome in Edinburgh!
GIFFORD LIND (Glasgow concert only) – Singer/songwriter, New Makars Trust (CD – ‘Songs of Mining Life from Pitwynd, Coaltown of Fife’)
SCOTT MURRAY (Edinburgh concert only) – Sangsters, New MakarsTrust (CD – ‘Tales Fae the Raws – Reminiscences of a lost mining community’ – from Fife)
These Memories of Mining concerts are a joint venture between the Edinburgh & Lothians and Glasgow Branches – exploring Scotland’s industrial past and present through its songs.
