THE Herald and Sunday Herald have become the latest newspapers to launch apps for mobile devices.
And in providing them for not just the iPad, but the iPhone and Android devices too, it’s believed they are the first Scots newspapers to launch for all three types of technology.
Says a statement issued by the papers: “The app is free to download from the App store and the Google Play Store with the latest 28 daily editions available. To enjoy the content users must have an app subscription to heraldscotland.com. Prices start from £3.99 for four weeks and include unlimited access to heraldscotland.com. The apps will be available free to The Herald print subscribers, and existing web subscribers can upgrade to either or both types of app.”
The statement quotes Mark Smith, group digital director, as saying: “We are delighted to be the first Scottish newspaper to launch apps for both Apple and Android platforms. Smartphone and tablet ownership is continuing to grow fast in Scotland and as a business we are very focussed on serving our customers with products that suit their lifestyles.”
