SCOTS creative agencies, The Union and Tayburn, are to provide paid internships as part of an UK-wide initiative to provide – say organisers – young people with “employment opportunities in the creative and digital media industries”.
The pair are among exactly 100 companies to commit to a programme that will involve 300 people.
The 300 will be chosen in July from 948 applicants to the Creative Pioneers Challenge, being run by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising in association with the Metro newspaper.
Part of the promotion for the competition involved a four-page cover wrap around an edition of the newspaper.
Say the organisers: “The Challenge was open to anyone aged 16-plus who could enter one of three categories: Can-Do (those who have creative flair, bright ideas and commercial instincts, but may be lacking experience), Can-Code (those who know how to develop programs required for the creative business environment) and Can-Start (those that have a creative business idea linked to digital content or platforms, but need commercial exposure and support).”
Of the applicants, 62 per cent were aged 16-24 years-old and 38 per cent were aged 25 and above. Sixty-six per cent entered the Can-Do category, nine per cent entered the Can-Code category and 25 per cent entered the Can-Start category.
