THE Edinburgh and Glasgow events magazine, The List, has revamped its online film coverage to provide, it says, “extended information for every film on every device”, in the process welcoming back its former critic, Hannah McGill.
McGill left The List to join The Herald before moving on to become artistic director the Edinburgh International Film Festival, until two years ago.
Says the magazine: “User experience is at the heart of a new, simplified design [to our film coverage] that enables quick and easy access to key information.
“Usage of List.co.uk from mobile devices has increased five-fold since Janiary last year, with these users now representing 20 per cent of our audience – a figure expected to grow to 35 per cent within a year.
“The site takes advantage of geo-location data to select nearby cinemas and also allows users to set their favourite cinemas. Listings cover over 350 UK cinemas, growing to over 750 in the next few months. List.co.uk/film provides high-quality listings for each film, scheduled release dates for future films, trailers, cast lists, critics score data and film festival programmes, with future features to include aggregated reviews and booking links.
“The extended information is augmented by a new monthly film newsletter and an increase in critical coverage from an expanded editorial team, including newly-appointed lead critic and former director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival Hannah McGill, and new film editor, Gail Tolley, contributor to the BBC and the Glasgow Film Festival.”
The magazine, in a statement, quotes its publisher, Robin Hodge, as saying: “This is a truly innovative service for mobile users and is among the UK’s first responsive design film sites – optimised for any device and using your location to provide quality listings and extended film information.
“We are delighted to welcome Hannah McGill back to The List, who brings extraordinary depth of knowledge of the international film scene and great talent as a writer.”
