A STUDENT magazine that is available for free throughout Scotland’s universities, colleges and schools is providing its readers the chance to be guest editor.
Source – which is published quarterly and has a circulation of around 30,000 – is providing the guest editorship for its summer issue.
Say its publishers, Glasgow-based DC Publishing: “Source’s student guest editor will be approving and amending the magazine’s content for summer, contributing ideas and writing the letter from the editor, as well as spending time with the busy team in their Glasgow city centre office to find out exactly what goes into making a magazine.
“If this isn’t enough, our guest editor will also be interviewing Philadelphia hip hop duo, Chiddy Bang, face to face in Glasgow before their support slot with Professor Green at the O2 Academy.”
DC Publishing goes on to say: “This guest editorship is a fantastic opportunity for any student hoping to pursue a career in journalism. Having edited the country’s top title for an issue will impress any potential employer in the increasingly competitive media market place.”
The company quotes one of its full-time employees who began as an intern while a post-graduate student at Strathclyde University, Lindsay Cochrane, as saying: “Making the most of your time in education to do work experience like this is so important, and Source is a great place to get started.
“Since getting my first full-time job with DC Publishing, I’ve interviewed the likes of Alex Salmond and the most seriously injured survivor of the July 7 London bombings, as well as members of the cast of TOWIE, X Factor finalists and Emeli Sandé. This is absolutely my dream job, and I mostly got it because I had done work experience. DC Publishing has so much to offer young journalists and it’s definitely something you should take advantage of.”
Publisher, Denise Connelly, is further quoted, as saying: “At Source, we’re all about creating opportunities for aspiring writers. The magazine is for students, so it’s important to us that students get involved with the making of it. We know that this country is brimming over with talent, and Source is a fantastic platform for people to explore that.”
