THE life of the Scots warrior, William Wallace, is to be turned into a TV drama series.
The subject of the movie, Braveheart, Wallace’s life is to be dramatised for television by STV’s production arm, STV Productions, in association with Digital Rights Group, which will be handling its distribtion, plus LA-based Creative Media and Nine/8 Entertainment.
Says STV, in a statement: “Stylistically in the vein of Spartacus and Game of Thrones, the drama series will depict Wallace’s back story, the years attempting to unify Scotland, his loves and losses, his legendary battles with King Edward The Longshank and his relationship with rival, Robert the Bruce.”
Among the investors is Creative Scotland, via a Development Fund agreed with STV last year.
Todd Berger of Creative Media will executive produce along with Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment. Mick Davis, a Scots-American writer, is writing and executive producing. Alan Clements and Margaret Enefer will executive produce for STV Productions.
The statement quotes Clements, director of content at STV, as saying: “This was a turbulent time in Scotland’s history, in which William Wallace had a starring and pivotal role. We plan to delve deep into his character and explore his passions, bringing parts of history to life in a spectacular and raw depiction. With all eyes on Scotland in the current political climate, this also seems to be a very appropriate time to tell this story in more depth.”
