A FORMER managing editor of The Sunday Post newspaper has died, aged 77.
Bill Anderson died on Friday, his death reported in yesterday’s edition of sister title, The Courier, and also on page two of today’s Sunday Post.
He was made Sunday Post editor, aged just 34, says today’s tribute, which continued: “Under his stewardship, the paper became the biggest-selling in Scotland, with a circulation of over a million. The achievement earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the newspaper with the highest per capita readership in the world.”
He retired in 1999, after a career at the paper spanning five decades, including 22 years as editor. In 1990, he swapped the editor’s post for that of manging editor. Adds the page lead appreciation: “He said his proudest moment in charge of the paper was when, as a result of a Sunday Post campaign on ‘dirty milk’, scotland was declared the first brucellosis-free country in Europe.”
Current editor, Donald Martin, is quoted, as saying: “Bill set the benchmark for all of us at The Sunday Post. Every week, we strive to produce a paper that he would be proud of and builds on his great legacy.”
