Course offers tips on how to make money online

AN one-day training course on how to make money from the internet is being hosted by the former editor of scotsman.com.

Stewart Kirkpatrick – now editor of his own website, caledonianmercury.com – promises to give attendees the skills they need to boost their digital presence with a view to finding audiences and increasing revenue potential.

Say the organisers: “The course will cut through bewildering detail and hyperbolic jargon to deliver simple, practical skills to enable you to use digital media to your advantage in a sustainable way. Focusing on free, web-based tools, it will help you find and access your audiences and boost your online profile.”

Attendees will be also taught how to measure the success of what they’re doing and how to evolve it, with some tips, tricks and hints to give them a competitive edge.

No previous knowledge of online publishing is required.

Adds the NUJ: “[Kirkpatrick] won ‘Multimedia Publisher of the Year’ at the 2010 Regional Press Awards. He was editor of the multi-award-winning scotsman.com from 2000 to 2007, during which time traffic increased ten-fold to four million readers. He was named as one of ‘the top 50 people shaping online journalism’ by UK Press Gazette. He has lectured on online and newspaper journalism and provided training to private and public sector clients.”

The course costs £100 for NUJ members and £160 for non-members.
